President Ilir Meta, after paying his respects at the “Mother Albania” monument on the occasion of Martyrs’ Day, gave a statement to the media.
“I couldn’t help but reflect on my presence here, on a completely different May 5th than ever before, as a result of the current situation. This has made it impossible for us to greet veterans or their families.
“May 5 is the day of remembrance, for the freedom and independence of Albania. Let us not be easily fooled, let us not take freedom and independence for granted once and for all, because if we are not vigilant these rights are always vulnerable. This is the day of those who sacrificed everything for the independence of Albania”, said Meta.
Further on, President Meta appealed for attention in the education of children in this regard: “I appeal for more attention in the education of young people for the anti-fascist liberation war for the sacrifices and those who gave their lives in it.”
