Linda Rama: Between Family, Work and Albania’s Future The Supreme Court Penal College rejected most of the preliminary
requests of the lawyers that defend the former Minister of Economy,
Dritan Prifti, and his Deputy Minister, Leonard Beqiraj, who asked the
case to be suspended about the video file that showed two high rank
officials.
The rapporteur of the case, Mirela Fana, declared that six requests presented by the lawyers had been rejected, while the court will give its opinion in another session for the two other requests: the invalidity of the video file and the suspension of the case.
The Penal College rejected the lawyers’ request for finding the case registration as invalid; for finding the request of the evidence materials as invalid; for finding the request for seizing these evidence as invalid; and for finding the procedure that appointed the experts as invalid. According to Ilir Meta, this procedure is not related with the previous trial of the former Deputy Prime Minister, Ilir Meta.
The court also rejected the request for finding the immunity removal as invalid as also for finding the Prifti-Beqiraj video as invalid, because, according to the Supreme Court, all these materials have been taken in full accordance with the legal dispositions.
The Supreme Court will start the trial against the two officials, which means that this process will be subject to a judicial review, starting from the witness hearings and the judicial discussion for the evidence. The lawyers are expected to use once again the precedent of the Meta trial, in which the Supreme Court considered the expertise of Glen Bart as invalid, while the last decision considers it as valid: two contradictory decisions from the same court.
