The President of Albania, Ilir Meta, declared for the media that the Electoral College, which left in power June 30th as the Election Day, is just a procedural trick taken under pressure and blackmail
“On June 10th I repealed the decree which makes June 30th the Election Day for the local elections. This was to make all parties reflect and help Rama’s efforts to dialogue with Basha, after seven public letters. But he gathered the Parliament in a disappointing move to remove the President from his duty”, Meta said.
The President argues that the Electoral College doesn’t have the competence for such a decision, as provided by the Constitution. “The President’s decree was totally based on the Constitution. Consequently, only the Constitutional Court can rule over it”, Meta said.
