Linda Rama: Between Family, Work and Albania’s Future The Foreign Policy representatives of Angela Merkel’s party
parliamentary group told Deutsche Welle That Albania could receive the
EU candidate status after elections 2013.
“Albania deserves this status, but only after the elections we can discuss what will be done. The criteria are clear and need to be fulfilled. The country must advance with war against corruption and the judiciary. These are the same criteria that are requires from other Western Balkan countries”, declared Philipp Misfelder.
He added that there is no better or worse treatment than the others. “The criteria count for all and should be respected. Albania has progressed and has become an important partner in NATO, hence in a long-term plan there’s no objection for their EU accession. Next year we want to be able to give the status after the elections”, he declared.
When asked about the elections of 2011, the CDU official underlined the need to hold a regular and transparent process, and doesn’t hesitate to express his optimism that the EU criteria regarding the elections will be respected by creating a new premise for the EU membership.
