For the European MP, Elly Schlein, the opposition’s protest should not become an obstacle for implementing the judiciary reform.
As Vice Chair of the Parliamentary Commission for the Stabilization-Association Agreement between Albania and the European Union, MEP Schlein knows very well the history of political conflicts in Albania.
“Every democratic and peaceful protest is one of the opposition’s rights. We don’t want to see this endanger a quick implementation of the judiciary reform, which was voted last summer. This way the Albanian citizens but also the European partners would receive a very important message. This would help us too, friends of Albania, who assisted with the integration process. It is a responsibility of all Parliament Members to push return the citizens’ trust and to emphasize the importance of Democratic institutions such as the Parliament”, Schlein declared.
As regards the request of the opposition for a technical government, the Italian MEP underlines that parties need a constructive dialogue, and at the end it is up to them to decide.
“I hope that the elections will be held, but it is not up to us to decide this. For me, I don’t see thisn necessity. If parties agree, it is their right. It is important to give a good signal and go to these elections”, Schlein said.
For her, it is important for the OSCE-ODIHR recommendations to get implemented.
