Mediu: System to change

The leader of the Republican Party, Fatmir Mediu commented on the report
of OSCE-ODIHR and sees it as indispensable to implement the
recommendations. According to him, it must go even further, by proposing
an amendment of the current electoral system.

“The report has added a responsibility to the political class with the recommendation and their fulfillment. The recommendations should not be seen as part of our political game, but as part of the Albanian citizens’ interests for achieving the standards that we all desire. The current electoral system has atrophied the Albanian politics. My personal opinion and that of the Republican Party is that even if we remain within the regional proportional, we should develop a preferential regional proportional by considering all options for allowing all individuals to compete, not only those who are within politics, but also those who want to be involved, and we should not leave this as a monopoly to some given people”, Mediu declared.

Mr. Mediu presented the ways that the Republican Party will fallow for realizing the electoral system amends.

“We must see to achieve a common judgement within the majority for what is necessary in order to have a democratic development in Albania. We will offer our opinions to our allies. We have started contacting with the representatives of the majority”, Mediu declared.

According to Fatmir Mediu, the Constitutional amends of 2008 did not give a positive effect in the political life of Albania.
