Medicine, reference price like other countries

Albania will not allow the import of medicaments with a higher reference
price than the one set by law, and that will be the same with the other
member countries, such as Italy, Greece and Macedonia.

“We have undertaken with great courage another Council of Ministers’ decision,  now in act, for establishing the reference system for the medicine prices, securing an equal price, especially for the expensive medicaments that come from states with bigger dimensions, such as Italy, Greece, or other neighbors that have a bigger demography and higher consumption level of their medicine. This is a concrete intervention for making the medicine in Albania cheaper, with a bigger quality and do not burden the budget of the Albanian families”, declared the Health Minister, Petrit Vasili.

During the annual analysis at the Medicine Control Center, they emphasized as an achievement the liberalization of the pharmaceutics market, which eliminates the corruption that was held do to the distance, as a main criteria in the licensing of a pharmacy.

It is worth mentioning that we are the country with the cheapest fees in Europe. The fees that we offer, not only for the registration of the medicine, but also for other services of the medicine import, and also the administrative measures are the cheapest in the region”, declared Besnik Jakaj, director of the Medicine Control Center.

The double tax is expected to be added on the medicine packages for fighting medicine smuggle.
