Media law approved

The Media and Education Commission passed the law for Audio Visual Media, with a series of amends.

MP Alfred Dalipi asked for more sanctions against operators who pirate programs.

“When someone is caught pirating a program that others have bought for 20.000 or 590.000 EUR, it says that a light sanction should be implemented as a rule. The term ‘as a rule’ should be removed. When someone is caught, the right sanction has to be implemented”, Dalipi declared.

These amends of laws 127 and 128 that are related with administrative violations and sanctions had the support of the majority MPs. In the years to come, the rapporteurs of this law that has stayed in the Commission for seven years are expected to resolve a very delicate issue, the formula for electing the AMA members and the Council of Public Radio and Television leaders.

The opposition asked for the seventh member to be elected through consensus or cast lots, while the majority declared that if no consensus will be reached, it will be decided in Parliament with the votes of the majority.
