Mayor of Kavaja resigns after criminal record surfaces for when he was a teen in Italy

The Mayor of Kavaja, Elvis Rroshi, resigned this Tuesday by announcing the decision on social networks.

The reason is a court sentence in Italy, for which Rroshi says he knew nothing about.

“My lawyers notified me that it seems that when I was a minor, 16 years old, in an Italian refugee camp, when I didn’t know a single word in Italian, I have apparently been sentenced without my knowledge about a huge brawl, although I have never appeared in court or served any day of prison”, Rroshi says.

He says he was not aware of this crime record and this is why he has not declared it, but he cannot continue his duty calmly as long as his innocence has not been proven legally.

Rroshi adds that he was expecting attacks from the Democratic Party from the moment he won the elections in Kavaja, and insisted that the decriminalization law keeps him clean.
