Massive usage of Marijuana

The Albanian police have blocked more than 19 tons of marijuana this year, 60 kg of heroine and 4 kg of cocaine in more than 700 cases.

“We are a transitory country. We also have our local consumers, but it is much smaller comapred to the drug demand in Western Europe, where the price is higher. Recent studies in Albania show that there are 6000-8000 problematic users. They’re mainly heroin users, and most of them concentrated in the capital, but there are also small problematic cities, like Gramsh and Cerrik”, declared Sokol Selfollari, chief of Anti-Drugs.

According to the Chief of the Anti-Drugs Police, there’s a decrease of the domestic use of heroine, due to the increased price in the international market. Police reports that 1 gram of cocaine costs from 6000 to 10.000 ALL, while 1 gram of heroine from 3000 to 5000 ALL. Hashish joints cost 100 or 200 ALL. The police say that the most problematic is the usage of marijuana.

“We have had some cases in high schools, but mainly in universities. Police has seized many quantities near the University”, Selfollari declared.

According to the statistics, more than 1025 people have been taken under custody for producing, selling or trafficking drug, while hashish cultivation areas were found in Gjirokaster, Vlore, Fier, Tirana, Kruja, Shkoder and Tropoja.
