Massacre at the Tirana Park

“This is a massacre in the middle of the Albanian capital, a great disloyalty of the Mayor who promoted himself as if he was supporting a green Tirana. There is a total lack of responsibility that shows that the entire park will be massacred. This is a very dangerous precedent”, declared environmentalist Lavdos Ferumi.

Unconfirmed sources say that the trees have been cut for widening the Elbasani Road, but the environmentalists say that it is not true.

“There is a project for building 5-12 store buildings. For me, as citizen and environmentalist, the concern is the deforestation”, declared the other environmentalist, Sazan Guri.

The Turkish Embassy has received permission to build its residences within the national park, while according to the environmentalists, there are other projects that will be built within the park.

There is no approved regulation plan, not from the Municipal Council and neither from the government. Mr. Basha came to power by saying that they will add the Green areas of the city, and this is only the first step. 7000 square meters that were cut within a single night in Tirana. The second step is that the Turkish embassy will take 7000 other meters, and then the university campus and the Tirana road ring, which was intentionally planned inside the Park.
