Linda Rama: Between Family, Work and Albania’s Future
The activities for the 100th anniversary of independence closed with
the official reception of the Albanian President, Bujar Nishani, at the
Palace of Brigades, where despite the dozens of guests, it didn’t
stop the delay of the ceremony for more than one hour, due to a concert
that was held in parallel at the Palace of Congresses.
While the State Protocol foresees the opening of this activity by the Albanian President, the ceremony was opened by the head of European Popular Parties, Wilfried Martens, who didn’t hide his political position when he said that the current government will push Albania towards the EU integration, adding that this would demand war against corruption and free and honest elections.
“The challenges that we will be facing from now on will be bigger, and the answer that you will give collectively will be definitive for the future generations. You have created a democracy that you should consolidate through the next elections, which should be free and honest”, Martens declared.
President Nishani, who was the one that should open this ceremony, spoke after the greeting speech of his homologue in Kosovo, Atifete Jahjaga, who declared that this is a good century for the Albanians, with two free and independent nations, and now we should progress towards the European family. President Nishani added to this position a long description of our history, our values and defects.
“Albanians are a bit strange: capricious consumers, avid lovers, kings of themselves who want each their own airport, own highway, hospital, prosecution and court. But we know how to adopt and certainly that we will adopt to become decent residents of Great Europe. We are the country and nation with the biggest desire to join Europe”, Nishani declared.
The delay didn’t allow the traditional cocktail, because the guests started leaving earlier.
