Linda Rama: Between Family, Work and Albania’s Future After the reactions of the Albanian side regarding the Greek researches
in northern Ionian Sea, the Greek Ministry of Development and
Infrastructure said that Nordic Explorer has started the researches 43
miles in western Kefalonia, and not in northern Ionian Sea, as initially
scheduled.
Top Channel has monitored the movements of the ship on GPS and found it exactly in the area that was announced. Sources said that the searching area was changed because of the Norwegian company, which wants to test its high-tech equipments in an area where it is almost certain that there are oil reserves.
The same sources said for Top Channel that the plan was changed on Sunday evening, a few hours before the end of the reception ceremony that was made to the Nordic Explorer ship at the Patra port, by the high rank officials of this Ministry. Although the plan was changed for technical reasons, Greece has temporarily withdrawn from the researches, until they will find an agreement with the Albanians or until both countries sign a new agreement for managing the borders.
Based on the limited time that this company will have for the researches, which is only three months, it would be very difficult to find a solution. Both countries are talking not only in a high political level, without leaving the necessary space to the experts of this area. This increases the doubts that the new agreement will be opposed by political groups and will allow extremists on both sides of the border to accuse their government about treason and selling the national interests. Oil researches in the Greek maritime are expected to confirm the presence of more than 1 billion barrels of oil, a quantity that will bring billions to Greece for at least the next 20 years.
