Marinza explosions, experts say company didn’t evaluate consequences

The experts from the Ministry of Energy concluded that Banker’s
Petroleum, the company searching for oil in this area, should have
predicted the carbon gas pockets that caused the explosions.

“A quantity of CO2 was injected there years ago, in the early 90s, and the company didn’t take this in consideration”, Dervishi declared.

However, the agreement of Bankers Petroleum provides no penalization against the company besides the compensation of houses.

The Director of the National Agency of Natural Resources says that these agreements favor the company and must be reviewed, in order to change things for the future.

“All fuel agreements are similar to that of Bankers. The resources are completely in the hands of the operator. The Agency can only act as a consultant of the company, which is an important role, but the choice is exclusive to them”, Dervishi declared.

Currently there are eight fuel agreements, while the Ministry of Energy is preparing a new draft-agreement that will serve as the base of agreements that will be signed in the future for exploiting the gas and fuel resources.
