Dozens of children gave flours and warm embraces to their teachers for the March 7th, the Teachers’ Day.

“After all the difficult work with the students, it is wonderful to feel that the children are grateful and that they celebrate with you”, declared teacher Mimoza Kristiqi.

The Jeronim De Rada school President, Dhurata Bakalli, expressed her happiness for the sincere felicitations that she received today.

Many schools organized concerts and activities.

March 7th is the Teachers’ Day, because on that day in 1887, the first Albanian laic school was opened in Korce. PM Berisha travelled to the city of Korce to honor the Albanian teachers, and considered the first school as a temple that lit a fire to never be distinguished.

“It was founded as the first laic school in the hsitory of our nation, and gave to our system the laic spirit, which is the most excellent basis for the civil formation and knowledge of every individual, and even in his vitality, because nothing more than knowledge represents the vitality of man and society. It became a great factor for the national unification. The laic and western school that was founded here became the leading light of the western vocation of the Albanian nation. Each time that we read Sami Frasheri, the Albanians have there the bible of all of their religions. The religions are different and enrich the soul, but ‘Albania – what it was, what it is and what it will be’, is the European Albania”, Berisha declared.

The Prime Minister visited the Korce professional high school, which has some important branches, such as Hotels and Tourism, Textile, Business and Economy. Encouraging the parents to educate their children in professional high schools, Prime Minister Berisha underlined the significance of professional education that better adapts the education system with the market requests, and that increases the employment chances for the youth.

Rama: Let’s turn dignity to teachers

The opposition leader, Edi Rama, visited the first Albanian laic school in Korce and declared that a rebirth is needed for the education system, in order to return dignity to teachers.

“Anyone understands in the walls of this school why Naim Frasheri wrote about korce. The SP Program is a rebirth for the education. The new generation will be the generation of EU citizen. I want to felicitate all retired teachers and young teachers, and underline that the Albanian Rebirth will turn the eyes, the heart and the mind to the education, for returning to teachers the lost dignity of their authority, in order to turn in reference points for every student. Because it is impossible that in 21st century Albania, the teachers are in such difficult situation, as it is happening today, when the government obliges them to pay travel tickets from their own pocket for teaching in remote areas”, Rama declared.

Followed by the Korce Mayor, Niko Peleshi, the Socialist leader, Edi Rama, met the teachers of this town, to who he expressed his gratitude. Rama promised that the new program “for an Albanian Rebirth”, will not allow today’s problems to be repeated.
