Linda Rama: Between Family, Work and Albania’s Future For the Democrats, March 22 is one of most important days in their
political calendar, since 20 years earlier, the Democratic party won for
the first time the pluralist elections, after 45 years of communist
dictatorship.
For PM Sali berisha, this was one of the most important days in the history of Albania, which marks the overthrowing of the communist dictatorship through votes.
“Today, for all Albanians, March 22 of 1992 was the day of pride, inspiration, trust and big hope. Albania is 20 light years farther and higher than the Albania of 20 years ago”, Berisha declared.
By honoring all Albanian youth that 22 years ago brought down the Berlin wall of Albania, PM Berisha gave a message for today’s youth.
“Those who today are 20 years old, have not lived a single day of their lives in dictatorship. You are the first generation that knew no oppression, humiliation, lack of human dignity. You are happy to have known only freedom. These two decades are a freedom crown on the forehead of every Albanian, on the majestic forehead of Albania. What you can do with that, none of us can imagine. You are our pride”, Berisha declared.
During his speech, Berisha compared today’s Albania with that of 20 years ago, noting that all major achievements for the Albanians during these two decades hold the sacrifice of the Albanians under the logo of the Democratic Party. According to Berisha, together with Kosovo’s independence, these two decades for the Albanian people were as important as an entire century.
“Our motto was ‘one nation, one stance’. Kosovo is free, and all Albanians are free, 100 years after there were plans to exterminate them. Today, on the 100th year of independence, the Albanians are free and proud on their lands. We believed on the nation. The Albanians made it, we realized it”, Berisha declared.
The Prime Minister also underlined that the Democratic Party, together with the Albanians, made the country become a NATO membership and realized the free movement in Europe, when only two decades ago, Albania was the most isolated country in the world. The last thing to be realized, according to Berisha, is the EU membership, for which he asked the Albanians’ support.
Rama’s reaction
The Socialist Leader, Edi Rama, reacted on twitter regarding the meeting organized by the Democratic Party on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the March 22nd 1992 elections victory.
Considering it a massive meeting for a past mandate, the Socailist leader declared that the communist past is still taking place.
“A celebration meeting for a past mandate of the Albanian government. The communist past of parades is continuing, only that these new parades are without going anywhere”, Rama writes on Twitter.
