After the protest of taxi vans, which peaked with blocked roads in the
Albanian capital, the Ministry of Transports declared that they are
determined to implement the law, which clearly states the division
between taxi services and public transport.
“Vans have received licenses wherever they have requested it, in any municipality or commune. Article 5 of this law says that taxi services for regular inter-urban lines is prohibited, which corresponds with the obligations of article 37 of the law for transports. No request is acceptable for damaging the standard that I mentioned. Taxis will continue their job and buses theirs. Both must work honestly”, declared Ylli Manjani, Deputy Minister of Transports and Infrastructure.
Deputy Minister Manjani says that the Ministry might see as an alternative for 8+1 taxis to work in rural roads where buses cannot go.
“We are ready to allow vans to work not only within the municipality territory, but within the entire district”, Manjani declared.
Deputy Minister Manjani commented the protest by considering it as politicized.
“They think that Albania should be destroyed according to the Greek scenario. This is isolated and doesn’t have a popular support, as it was advertised”, Manjani declared.
