Linda Rama: Between Family, Work and Albania’s Future On the same day when the failure of the privatization of Albpetrol was
official, Socialist Party leaders gathered the best oil specialists in
the country.
The specialists suggested the opposition to take the underground assets and its processing industry under control by establishing a public structure for the implementation of concessionary agreements.
“It starts with the control of the agreements and the quantity of concessions. A detailed control to find the real value of Albpetrol”, declared Engjell Prrenjasi, an oil expert.
“Albpetrol should not be privatized. It must remain a national asset”, declared Dhimiter Gjini, an oil engineer.
The opposition leaders declared that the government failed with the Albpetrol privatization because they did not treat it as a national asset, causing an economic damage of millions of Euros to the country.
“Our political and governing program will have the national interests and those of the community as a priority. We have nothing against concessions and privatizations, but everything should be done in full accordance with the Albanian Constitution and laws”, Gramoz Ruci declared.
The opposition declared that it is necessary to realize the oil extraction and processing capabilities within the country, in order to increase the economic value.
“Certainly that Albpetrol will be in this situation, since it is outside the control of professional administrators”, declared Arben Ahmetaj, Socialist MP.
During the meeting they declared that the oil extraction has reached 1 million ton, but it is exported raw, and the 650.000 ton that the country needs each year is supplied by import, causing an economic damage of 200 million USD, without calculating fiscal evasion in the market, which could reach 150 million EUR.
