The Malaria disease returns after 50 years in Albania. Doctors raise the
alarm after verifications that the disease carrying mosquito is
circulating in our country.

The head of the infective diseases at the Tirana University Hospital Centre , Dhimiter Kraja, declared that there has been an increasing number of cases but that has been well managed.

“We have had seven cases this year, but we are expecting for others from the neighbouring countries. But these are sporadic and curable cases”, Kraja declared.

“Besides the cases imported from Africa from the Albanians who work there, we have identified cases of Albanians coming from Greece. These are few cases, but that ring alarm bells for understanding that these diseases are near us and we must be attentive”, declared Dr.Arjan Harxhi.

Harxhi says that after 50 years, the disease has changed its clinical form and if the patients don’t arrive on time, their life is in danger.

“Malaria today is not like 50 years ago. It can appear simply with body temperature, fever, headaches, but the citizens must be responsible. If they have doubts, they must go immediately at the doctor, because the diagnosis is special”, Harxhi declared.

The Health Ministry asked the cooperation of the local administration and that of the Environmental Ministry in order to take measures for the disinfection of the coastal areas and lagoons that create swamp.
