Majority rejects President’s decree

The majority at the Commission of Laws rejected the President’s decree
that proposed Alaudin Malaj as candidate for member of the Supreme
Court.

While the opposition was absent, the majority passed the rejecting proposal calmly and declared that the reason was that the Presidency had announced it two months late and the law for the Supreme Court was not respected.

The Socialists say that the meetings of the Parliamentary Groups with the President have never been for consults, as required by the Constitutional Court. The Chairman of the Commission of Laws, Fatmir Xhafaj, declared that the President has not respected the criteria, has ignored the Parliament and has considered it a notary of his decrees.

The Socialist Movement for Integration MP, Spartak Braho, went even further and declared that the majority must start the procedures for removing the President, because he has no intention to change the practice of his decrees. However, Braho was the only one abstaining when the opposition voted against the decree.
