Linda Rama: Between Family, Work and Albania’s Future The majority MPs boycotted today’s meeting of the Media Commission, in
which they would discuss to fill the vacancies of for AMA, its Director
and the Albanian Public Television leading council.
The chairwoman of this Commission, Valentina Leskaj, considered this boycott a political action to not allow the Parliament to fill the vacant places, when the new law has just entered in effect.
“It is not a matter of MPs. The MPs have received an order. This is a matter of political will to fulfil the vacancies and make legal the two media regulation entities, which are illegal for as long that the National Council of Radio and Television acts only with the representatives of the majority and the those of the Public Television council, whose mandate has expired 18 months ago, together with the mandates of a series of institutions that derive from the Council”, Leskaj declared.
The new law for the media should fulfil the vacancies at the Public Radio Television Council, and change the Audio Visive Authority. But according to the opposition, this is a tactic to postpone the replacement of these members, since the Parliament will be dispersed in the first week of May. The majority MPs accused the opposition of postponing sessions so that the new members will not be able to get elected, making the former NCRT not legal.
