Majority and opposition join votes

For the first time in the Municipal Council, the majority and opposition
voted together the propositions made by the Tirana Municipality. They
voted 16 out of 18 drafts related with monuments of famous Albanian
figures, such as Sabri Godo and Jeronim De Rada; voted to lower taxes for
small artisan businesses and grant permits to some apartment building
projects that started with regulation violations.

But there were still harsh debates about the Urban Plan, already approved by the National Council of Territory and which, according to the opposition, is destroying what has been built so far.

“The Mayor has the right to defend the plan. We are against it because nothing has been built, but we have seen only destructions. Mr.Basha has been leading the Tirana Municipality for one year and a half now, and with the entire archive on his hands he has never stopped and tell us what exactly these violations are”, declared Aldrin Dalipi, Mayor of the Socialist councillors.

“I’m not accusing anyone because I don’t have the competences, the time and neither the desire to discuss the sins of the past. My mandate is to go ahead, and I kept my promise by brining the Urban Plan that was missing. This plan gives to the citizens a transparency of Tirana, the protection of their public spaces. It will be difficult to fall prey to mediators who try to alter what the citizens are entitled to”, Basha declared.

The opposition disagreed to vote the new taxi cab fees in Tirana from 250 ALL for 2 km to 250 ALL for the first 1.5 km. Taxi Drivers’ Union asked for this law in order to avoid dishonest competition and compensate the increased fuel price.

“One week ago, Fiks Fare revealed how taxi driver mediators received money in broad day light in the center of Tirana. It was a very serious investigation”, Gazheli declared.

“If you have evidence for any criminal conduct, you may address to the Prosecution”, Mayor Basha answered.

The opposition councilor, Ervin Bushati, denounced a decision that puts memorial symbols for the dictatorship, since it was started before being voted.

The opposition abstained for giving Tirana Gratutude Title to comedian Veli Rada, sying that there are other people who have also given an important contribution to Tirana.
