The government of Macedonia handed over in Parliament the draft with the constitutional amends for changing the country’s name to Northern Macedonia.
Government leaders expect lawmakers to vote the changes regardless of their party affiliations, in order to respect the will of the citizens who voted almost 80% in favor.
But the biggest opposition party, VMRO-DPMNE, has given signals that they will not change their stance. They insist that Zoran Zaev doesn’t have the legitimacy to change the country’s name, changing this way, according to them, the identity, history and culture of the Macedonian people.
