While looking for a strong symbolism against the January 21st protest,
when four people were killed in front of his office, Prime Minister
Berisha visited Lushnje for commemorating the 92nd anniversary of the
Lushnje Congress, although the Albanian history books say that this
Congress was held from January 28th to 31st, in 1920.

According to Prime Minister Berisha, the congress started the preparations since January 21st. Berisha declared that the Lushnje Congress has the same importance as that of the Prizren League and the Declaration of Independence.

“In the efforts of the Albanians for rebuilding their state, the Prizren League, the Declaration of Independence in Vlore and the Lushnje Congress are three events that would not survive in the memory of a state without each other”, Berisha declared.

Berisha visited the museum house, where the National Congress was held.

While exiting the museum, Berisha declared that the Lushnje Congress founded the Albanian pluralism, a system where the right to vote is guaranteed.

This was a way for commenting the opposition’s memorial of the “Deshmoret e Kombit” boulevard, which is a right of the citizens of any free country, according to Berisha.

The Lushnje Congress was held in 1920, in a very delicate moment for the independence of Albania. The Congress reconfirmed the independence and chose the Albanian representatives for the Peace Conference in Versailles, Paris, and elected the four Supreme Councilors, with the functions of the Head of the State, and a national council of 37 people, forming a government with Sulejman Delvina as Prime Minister and Ahmed Zogu as Interior Minister. One of the Congress’ decisions was transfer of the Albanian capital city from Durres to Tirana.
