The Freedom House Report for 2011 has addressed to several issues that
have dominated the Albanian political life, for showing the freedom
level of the country.

Same as in the previous reports, Albania is still a country with partial freedom, ranking in the same categories with Afghanistan, Azerbaijan, Bangladesh and China.

The Freedom House Report explains why the freedom in Albania is partial.

“Albania’s freedom level fell after the deaths of four opposition protesters on January 21st 2011; the polarization of the electoral mechanism that followed the May 8th local elections and the failure of the courts to preserve impartiality during the trial of a high profile corruption case”, the report says.

In the category of partially free countries there was Albania, Kosovo, Bosnia and Macedonia, while Serbia and Montenegro are among the free countries.

Freedom House underlines that the uprisings of the Arab Spring have inspired oppressed people throughout the world.

“The reforming movements that took place in the Middle East and Northern Africa have set the biggest challenge for the authoritarian regimes, since the fall of the Soviet communism, 20 years ago”, the report underlined.
