Lime producers who use old car tires to feed the fire of their kilns have won every battle against the state.
On the day that the government chose to use the country from wastes, Top Channel cameras showed a limekiln in the Halil village, Kruje, which was using car tires to feed the fire, as many others in the area.
Old tires have a minimal cost and generate a lot of heat, but they are also an ecological bomb with a great cost for the residents. The poisonous gases cause dozens of serious diseases that are widely spread.
The owners have also a depot where they keep the tires, which are usually burned during the night, but also in the early hours of the morning.
This environmental massacre has also damaged the forests around. Woods are cut for all kilns in the area, some of which are only a few kilometers from Tirana and only a hundred meters from the national road.
No police, prosecution, court or any other state institution has been able to stop this practice that has been running for years now.
