Linda Rama: Between Family, Work and Albania’s Future 129, Albania’s emergency phone number, receives in Tirana around 80-100
phone calls each day, and most of them are seeking help.
This office that stays open 247 receives the first information for everything that takes place in Tirana. They the information is spread to the police districts, so that the police can intervene on time.
“Most of the phone calls notify us about conflicts, robberies and other problems. There are phone calls about traffic violations, criminal events, public disorders and domestic violence”, says Nijat Kroi, specialist at the coordination room.
However, there are many phone calls that give fake information, or when citizens call for situations that have nothing to do with the police, such as complaints about expensive energy bills or help to find an address.
“Some citizens do it for their pleasure, other because they don’t know where else to go”, Kroi declares, adding that there are even strange requests such as “I cannot sleep tonight, what should I do”.
