The judicial battle of Alfred Shkurti, knows as Aldo Bare, seems to have
come to an end. He was sentenced to life in prison by a judge panel
delegated by the High Council of Justice, with competences of the Court
of Appeal of Serious Crimes.
The trial went on behind closed doors, although the judges did not explain the reasons why the media should not be present.
The Court of Appeal Judges: Hysni Demiraj Valdete Hoxha, Metrush Saraçi, Fiqirete Mullaj and Gramoz Levanaj were vested with the temporary competences of the Judge of Serious Crimes by the High Council of Justice, since the other Serious Crimes judges were consumed.
Bare is expected to appeal another time at the Supreme Court, claiming that the Appeal did not take in consideration the orders of the Supreme Court for reopening the case according to the tasks given by teh College, including the status of witness Gramoz Selmanaj.
Bare was arrested in Turkey in 2006, and was brought to Albania exactly when the other members of his gang had been sentenced for a series of organized crimes.
