The economic income level is depriving the citizens each day more from
buying new cars. The sales points say that the purchases have had a
strong reduction this year because of the economic crisis.

If the purchasing power was 40% in 2008, this has fallen with 20% to 20% only within one year. According to the concessionary, the effect of the economic crisis was felt especially at the middle class that has reduced the purchase of new cars.

“If we refer to 2011, 3100 new cars were sold in the market and this year it will fall with 20% to 25%  compared to 2011”, says Gentian Bushati, General Director of Porsche Albania.

The government’s decision to remove the customs fee for imported vehicles has made most of the Albanian citizens buy cars in foreign countries like Germany and Italy. According to the Customs directory, if in 2011 there have entered 7732 cars from these countries, this year it has almost quadrupled.

“After the new law and its adoption there was an immediate impact with a significant increase of the used cars that entered Albania”, Bushati declared.

This market has also faced a fall because of the government’s decision to reduce the cars bought for state directors. The same was made by private businesses, which have a tendency to increase the usage time of new cars by saving the expenses.
