Linda Rama: Between Family, Work and Albania’s Future Katie Taylor, from the Reprive British Organization, who has taken under
legal custody the former Guantanamo prisoners, declared that the
Albanian decision for not allowing the Egyptian citizen to return to his
country is absurd.
Taylor declared that there is no legal obstacle from Egypt for Sherif Almeshad to visit his family. Not later than three days ago, Gerogia allowed one former Guantanamo prisoner to return to Libya.
The same has happened with other EU countries. After thanking the Albanian government and people for the welcome, Sherif Almashad asked the Albanian state to respect his right to travel, because his past has nothing unclear. He considered as revenge against him the fact that his wife was not allowed to travel. Lawyer Shyqyri Dylgjeri declared that the Albanian state is facing a clear violation of law 16-1 of the Constitution for the free movement of Albanian and foreign citizens.
“The Constitutional rights are guaranteed to the Albanian citizens and foreigners. In the concrete case, the Egyptian citizen, Sherif Almashad, and his wife, Drita Gjoni, the Albanian state has violated their constitutional right”, the lawyer declared.
Dylgjeri declared that if there will be no administrative solution to this case he will address it to court. Sherif Almashad has stayed at the Guantanamo prison for eight years. He has been living in Tirana since 2010, after an agreement was made between the Albanian and US governments. His story was made public by Top Channel, last week.
