Linda Rama: Between Family, Work and Albania’s Future The trial against Dritan Dajti, Ergys Xhoxhi and Mariglen Allmuca has
dailed for the 12th consequent time due to the absence of the lawyers.
The judicial body has notified the National Chamber of lawyers for this situation, and also the Minister of Justice, but no reaction has been seen so far, while the witnesses have not been able to give their declarations in front of the judge panel.
The Chairman of the Serious Crimes, Sander Simoni, declared for Top Channel that this situation is intolerable, because there are other processes in this court that are being withheld due to the lawyers.
“It is intolerable. We will continue the official communication with the National Chamber of Lawyers. We will ask formal meetings with the leaders of these institutions. I will inform the Ministry of Justice, which has the obligation to coordinate and verify the way how the lawyers conduct their profession”, Simoni declared.
As for the experience against some previous defendants, who have been accused of creating criminal organizations or participating in criminal organizations, the Court of Serious Crimes is trying to replace the absent lawyers, in order to unblock the process. But this method is not working and the lawyers are still being absent.
“Otherwise we will interfere with discipline measures by not excluding the possibility to suspend lawyers that do not assist their clients or treat selectively the cases in which they are present or not. So far we have had no response even by the Ministry of Justice, Simoni declared.
The absence of lawyers in courts and the blocking of trials as result has been made public several times, although there is still no solution about that.
