Linda Rama: Between Family, Work and Albania’s Future The opposition at the Commission of Security has raised doubts regarding
the Law for Arms amend. One of the main concerns is allowing
businessmen who encase at least 20 million ALL to carry arms.
“Will it prevent attacks made by robbers, or will it increase crimes? There are many businessmen today who have been accused of money laundering”, declared the Socialist Mp, Asllan Dogjani.
But the majority declared that they will withdraw from this point.
“After the debate made at the Commission of Laws, we reflected and decided that it could be removed”, declared the Deputy Interior Minister, Arben Ristani.
The biggest fear of the Socialist Party is that this law gives weapons to the commune leaders and their drivers before the elections. Ilir Gjoni has suspicions on the urgency of the law, for which the Deputy Interior Minister, Arben Ristani, declared with irony:
“Elections or San Valentine have no connection with this law. It was brought now just randomly”, Ristani declared.
MP Sterkaj reminded 1997, and declared that today we have more weapons in suspicious hands.
The Socialist MP Arben Isaraj concluded the meeting by saying that the law gives weapons to every MP or Minister, but not to the President.
“The First Citizen of Albania, the Commander of the Armed Forces, the Chairman of the High Council of Justice, the man who decrees Prosecutors, the Albanian President, is disarmed. The law was made when Bamir Topi was president. Did you need him unarmed because he used to undertake coups? Or did you think that the President’s weapons should be held by the Prime Minister and the Parliament Speaker? Everyone has weapons, besides the president”, Isaraj declared.
