The Court of Serious Crimes covers 31 serious penal acts, starting from
genocide and to terrorist organization. To this group has been added
domestic crime and blood feud, in the beginning of this month.
But lawyers who have defended important cases for years are against this decision.
“The mission of the Serious Crime is to reestablish the legal regime in Albania. On my opinion this is complete, and now it is time for this court to get supreme. As regards the Criminal Code amends, I believe they are positive. Those amends are required by our time and current needs. But passing the domestic crime at the Serious Crime Court has no sense. Crimes in family are specific and have no relation to the Serious Crimes”, declared Alfred Duka, lawyer.
The Head of Serious Crimes, Sander Simoni, doesn’t see the increased competence for domestic crime and blood feud as a novelty in justice.
“Blood feuds have been a competence of the Serious Crimes since when it was established, but were removed on September 2004. They returned under the competence of this court. Pre-meditated murders have also been under this court”, Simoni declared.
But for Prof.Dr.Altin Shegani, the amends should be scrutinized as movements against these phenomena.
“The most important thing is that the parameters for this sanction should be optimal. This is what the legislation has seej in the general structure for the goal of this package”, Shegani declared.
