The former Deputy Prime Minister, Ilir Meta, sued the Italian newspaper “La Repubblica” over slander.

Sources from the staff that works for Meta declared that the suit is related with the news that was published in this newspaper about Meta’s and Frattini’s connection with Valter Lavitola.

According to these sources, Meta has had legal battles with “La Repubblica” even in the past, and he has won. This time he will hire an Italian law firm.

Two days ago, the Italian newspaper published Lavitola’s news on the first page. The article showed how Lavitola asked the secretary of the Foreign Minister, Franco Frattini, to meet Ilir Meta and the fact that Top Channel had disproved the head of the Italian diplomacy.

During an interview for “La Repubblica”, Meta said that he didn’t know Lavitola, while in another press release he said that he knew him as the director of a newspaper.

Frattini gave two contradictive versions in two days. He initially denied the news, but then he was obliged to confirm it, making the Italian opposition asking him explanations in the Parliament.
