Three months before the official date of the local election campaign,
the media and public opinion are already discussing the possible
candidates for the main cities.

Top Channel’s “Top Story” of this Thursday, with journalist Sokol Balla, had guests Agron Duka, MP of the Republican Party; Artan Lame, head of the ALUIZNI, and analysts Artur Zheji and Skender Minxhozi.

Agron Duka was the first one who openly expressed his interest for being candidate of the Durres Municipality. He was elected in 2001 as an independent Mayor, but with the support of the Socialist Party. In 2009, under the logo of the Socialist Party. He left the party in 2013.

“In 2013 I had a disagreement with the SP leader, the Prime Minister of today. I refused to go in Berat and I accepted the offer of Mr.Mediu”, Duka explains.

Duka received votes even under the Republican Party during the general elections, but is it enough for making him Mayor of Durres? And will it exclude the candidacy of Lefter Koka, from this city?

“The Republican Party leader said that I was a potential candidate and I accepted. We will see if my candidacy will unite the right wing. I promise victory. If not, we wil support the candidacy of the right wing in Durres. The DP of Durres is united now, thanks to the new local leader and the MPs.  There is optimism that we will win these elections after 15 years”, he said.

Analyst Skender Minxhozi declared that Duka’s is a case when the personal merits are united with those of the party and make it successful, because he would never win as an independent.

As for the accusations of the former Democratic Party leader, Sali Berisha, Artan Lame said that Berisha has changed while Duka is the same person. He said that at least for the local elections, people should not vote for the party, but for the person who will work for the city.

Another analyst, Artur Zheji, declared that Duka’s candidacy for the right wing is the right one. He underlined that Lefter Koka might not run for Mayor in Durres, who is another possible name.

When asked if he would ever return to the left parties, the Republican MP, Agron Duka, answered: “I will never return at the left parties”.

Artan Lame said that besides the names, there is also the new division with 61 municipalities. He expressed his readiness to run for Tirana through the SP-SMI coalition.

“Balances have changed with the new division. I am ready to run. I want to do something about this city. I will do it, if they give me the chance”, he said.
