Linda Rama: Between Family, Work and Albania’s Future
Local and regional hospitals are shorthanded for specialized doctors, anaesthetists, paediatricians and family doctors.
The Health Minister, Vangjel Tavo, was updated with this concern by the doctors he met in different areas of Albania.
“The main problem is the lack of specialist doctors in some regional hospitals, mainly anaesthetists and paediatricians. This is a problem inherited lately with specialist doctors work whenever they find a vacant job and they are not obliged by agreements for at least five years to return in the region where there is a shorthand”, Tavo declared.
The Health and Education ministries will make less specialization semesters for some fields and will oblige doctors to work for five years in the region where they applied.
“For the specializations which I hope will end within March, there will be a regional list in which will be included the requests of regional hospitals, and the doctors who will win the competition will apply in these regions. They will profit the specialization right for these regions and will be obliged to work there for five years. Another solution is the specialization with accelerated curricula for specialist doctors, such as anaesthesia, reanimation or neonatology, which means that the courses will be more intensive. We are thinking to turn four year specializations in two years”, Tavo underlined.
General Doctors with more than five years of experience will undergo a test that will certify them as family doctors.
“We have agreed with the university and the education ministry to give the family doctor diploma to doctors who have more than five years of experience in health centres”, the Minister underlined.
Tavo declared that specialist doctors in other districts will reduce the flux in Tirana.
