The Emir of Kuwait, who was just decorated by the Albanian President,
Bamir Topi, gave 5.5 million EUR to the Tirana Municipality for the
reconstruction of the Skenderbej Square.

This gesture was given after the state dinner where were invited 64 ambassadors of the Diplomatic Body accredited in Kuwait City.

When he brought to Tirana a 4 million USD check for the families of the Gerdec Victims, the Emir delegates handed it over to the Albanian President, who sent it to the bank account of the Gerdec victims.

But this was a personal gesture from the Emir. This time he involved the government, which took two decisions while President Bamir Topi was visiting Kuwait.

Topi invited the Kuwaiti government and businesses to be involved in Albania in the second day of his visit, where he met the Deputy Prime Minister, Sheik Al Khalid Al Sabah, the Ministers of Health and Education, the Chamber of Commerce, the leaders of the biggest Kuwaiti Company “Alimtiaz Investment Group” and the leader of the Kuwaiti Development Fund.

The question is how will these 5.5 million EUR used by the new administration of the Municipality, when the original project for which Kuwait had paid was cancelled. But as Kuwait declared, it is not up to them to decide what is best for the Tirana citizens.
