Linda Rama: Between Family, Work and Albania’s Future
The leader of the Self-Determination Movement, Albin Kurti, addressed a
letter to the intermediate of Kosovo’s independence, Marti Ahtisari.
He says to Ahtisari that his decision for treating Kosovo as a special case of the Yugoslav dissolution and the efforts for resolving that is different to the other former republics and that will have a long-term negative effect for Kosovo.
“The solution offered by you has been only ‘Albanian-Serbian solutions, new Serbian communes, the exterritoriality of 45 churches that are defined as Serbian and the double majority, which implies the inability to make Constitutional amends without agreeing with the Serbs. Your logic might have had good intentions, but since it is unjust, it will create only undesirable effects. Through the solution that you have proposed to Serbia, you have created great possibilities to them to control the political stability of Kosovo. Your plan is only partially implemented, only when Belgrade has agreed to: in the enclaves yes, in Northern Kosovo, not. And now that Kosovo is facing new negotiations for the North, in which your package will be open. If once you caused us one damage, today you have one debt to us. Accept that Kosovo needs today and is more than able to go beyond your plan, towards the complete sovereignty and independence”, Kurti says in his letter.
