Linda Rama: Between Family, Work and Albania’s Future The much awaited session for the extradition of Ilir Kumbaro from London to Albania was postponed for four other weeks.
In the last session it was decided that the next one would be held on November 1st.
Officials from the International Jurisdiction of this Court told for Top Channel that the Judge decided to postpone it to December 1st. These officials give no reason for this postponement.
The first postponement to September was taken for waiting the decision of the United Colleges of the Albanian Supreme Court. At the time it was argued that they were waiting the completion of the judge panel with a new colleague decreed by the President.
The United Colleges of the Supreme Court in Tirana considered as valuable the arrest order for Ilir Kumbaro, released by the Court of Serious Crimes, which is interpreted as an unblocking of the extradition procedures in London.
The Prosecution of Serious Crimes accuses Ilir Kumbaro of kidnapping Ziso Kristopulli, Avdyl Loshaj and Remzi Hoxhaj, the latter killed and disappeared. The events date on October 1995, when Kumbaro was the head of the Albanian Secret Service.
Kumbaro demanded political asylum in London, with the fake name Shaqa Shatri, who resulted to be a poor man from Prizren. After 1997, the Albanian justice opened a process for the disappearance of Remzi Hoxha, and in 2008, the Court of Serious Crimes released an international arrest order for Kumbaro.
It remains to be seen if the session that was postponed to December 1st, in London, will allow Kumbaro’s extradition or not and send him to Tirana, or if there will be other delays, until the appeals at the British Supreme Court will be over.
