3.5 million EUR were given for the construction of a new aqueduct in
Kukes and 10 villages around. But the works have been delayed and the
city if suffering for water. The few water that can be reached is mostly
polluted.

For this reason, 100 families in Kukes have protested after two weeks without water at their homes. Most of them are very poor and they say that they are obliged to buy the water they consume. They say that if the situation will not change, they will start a hunger strike.

“We are living without water supply for more than two weeks. We appealed the mayor, and he promised that we will have water supply 247. We don’t want it 247. We want it one hour a day, just to fill some containers”, the revolted residents say.

The Mayor of Kukes says that this situation is caused by the delayed works.

“I will never agree with the delays and tolerance regarding the Kukes Aqueduct. Even with Mr.Olldashi and everyone else. Kukes needs to control this money as Olldashi brought it here. We have the authority to control them. There are 4 million EUR for Kukes and 11 villages. He may come and see if the money is used for Kukes”, declared the Mayor of Kukes, Hasan Halilaj.
