Kukes, Kalimashi mine collapse

A gallery collapsed at the Kalimashi mine, Kukes, blocking two workers inside.

The local authorities announce that the two miners, identified as Besnik Halili and Xhezahir Selmani, might have lost their lives.

Same sources added that police officers were able to remove another person from the rubble, who was wounded by the collapse.

The situation at the Kalimashi mine is similar to that of Bulqize, where many workers have lost their lives due to difficult conditions.

The Bulqize mineworkers have downed their tools for better working conditions, a pay raise of 40% and a lower pension age.

The negotiations with the ACR Company, which manages the mines, have given no result up to now and no common language was found, since the Russian-Austrian company refused to conduct negotiations with the presence of the Syndication leader, Kole Nikolla, by asking only a direct meeting with the mineworkers, who refuse to negotiate without the Syndication.

For this matter, the today’s Parliamentary session had harsh debates between MPs, with the opposition accusing ACR as a company created by the people of the former Minister of Economy, Genc Ruli.
