The residents of Mamez village in Kukes clashed with the Police after
they blocked through force the works of a private company that is
opening a mine at the area.

One day after the clash, when some of the residents were taken under police custody, the others appeared on the road again, declaring that they will not allow anyone to work.

The company is about to open a ferronickel mine, but the residents say that the company has violated all agreements and has destroyed the village’s lands and roads.

“We have argued with this company, and they have violated the documents that we have given them. They have violated the agreement they had with us”, declared one of the protesting residents.

“We have talked with a company, have signed a notarized agreement, but nothing has happened”, declared another.

The residents accuse the head of the commune of exerting violence and shooting against them with firearms.

“He has created a horrible scandal. He shot at my house when I was inside together with my children. The bullet rebounded”, one of them declared.

The Police have taken two of the residents under custody for blocking the work of the private company, and this has made the others protest near the heavy machinery, in order to stop them from working.
