The Head of the Delegation for Balkan at the European Parliament, Eduard
Kukan, appealed for a strong political cooperation regarding the reform
of the audiovisual media monitoring institution.

Mr.Kuka considers this process as very important for guaranteeing the media freedom in Albania.

“Spirit of political cooperation is needed when strengthening independence of the media regulator”, advises Eduard Kukan, the Head of the Delegation for Balkan at the Euroepan Parliament, through a special press release.

“The cooperation and mutual respect between all political forces is the key for the further progress of the country in the integration process,” said Kukan, who recalled of the December Resolution at the European Parliament on Albania, which “calls on the Parliament and the Government and other relevant state institutions to preserve and foster the integrity and independence of key institutions.”

“In this respect, the independence and institutional integrity of the Audio-visual and Media Authority, responsible, among other, for strengthening freedom of media and reform of the public broadcaster, is highly relevant.

I want to strongly appeal to major political actors to maintain the spirit of cooperation, which was present during the adoption of the media law in March 2013 and guarantee the best practices related to independence and the appointment procedures of the members of the media regulator,” said Kukan.

According to Top Channel sources, this declaration comes after the concerns raised by the incumbent Director of the Audiovisual Media Authority at the office of the Slovakian European Parliament Member, before the Parliament approves the legal amends proposed by the majority about the appointments in the directing board of this authority.
