The head of the delegation for the relations with Eastern Europe, Eduard
Kukan and other MPs of the European Parliament delegation declared that
the political cooperation between the Albanian parties must give the
necessary results, in function of the aspirations of the Albanian
citizens.
During a meeting with President Topi, the delegation of the European MPs, led by the Head of the Delegation for the relations with Eastern Europe, Eduard Kukan, discussed about the latest developments in the country.
“We consider Albania’s EU integration process as completely based on performance and merit, which will serve to the best interest of the Albanian citizens through the reforms”, declared President Topi during the meeting.
Topi noted that this visit of the European MPs shows the support of the European Union to our country, and that the commitment, dedication and good will of the Albanian class will affect the EU candidate status process. Topi declared that after two years of political stalemate, the European perspective has shown to be a very important unification mean, and very significant for building consensus between the political parties. The Albanian President declared that the establishment of the ad hoc Commission for the Electoral Reform, the Working Group for reviewing the Parliament Regulation, the voting of the laws that require qualified majority, mark positive developments and open way to the implementation of the 12 priorities of the European Commission. He underlines that the progress report of the European Commission for Albania has turned into a working program for the Albanian institutions, for further advances with the European agenda.
Kukan: You have undertaken encouraging steps
The Albanian Parliament Speaker, Jozefina Topalli, received the delegation of the European Parliament, headed by Kukan, who visited Albania for this year’s inter-parliamentary meeting for the Stabilization and Association process.
“We are very happy to receive positive news from Albania. The achievement of an agreement and the voting of three votes that require qualified majority are encouraging and concrete steps. We hope to continue with this climate, in order to fulfill the integration aspiration. The message of our meeting with you is that the European parliament welcomes the agreements reached between the political parties. We are very happy that these agreements were achieved in the Parliament. We value your contribution, your positive role, and we want to believe that this climate will continue. We are here to reconfirm that the things at the European Parliament are moving positively for Albania, and we are ready to contribute so that this continues with a positive trend”, Kukan declared.
The second test of a pact
This Friday morning, the candidate status and a series of other issues will bring the Albanian politicians together with the European Parliament MPs, in the fourth inter-parliamentary meeting for the Stabilization and Association between Albania and the EU.
The political circles in Albania and Brussels are looking forward to see if this meeting will be able to produce a joint agreement of the Albanian political parties.
In the last three meetings for the Stabilization and Association between Albania and the EU, the political parties of our countries failed to fulfill the priorities that EU has set for Albania.
The three failed occasions to come with a joint agreement have shown to the European Parliament that our leaders are unable to agree for issues of vital importance in the EU integration projects of their own country.
But the consistent pressure of the international community for dialogue, seem that will play a key role for making the parties find a point of agreement.
However, everything is possible in the Albanian politics, which is never short of last-minute surprises. What is sure, is that the European MPs, with Tanya Fayon among them, do not expect a fourth disappointment from the Albanian politicians.
Top Channel has learned from sources near the European MPs that both Albanian parties have expressed their readiness to approve the agreement. The first pact for the Electoral Reform is a good sign.
