The European MP, Eduard Kukan, was asked about the controversial
declaration that Joseph Daul made in the Congress of the European
People’s Parties, addressing it to the Albanian opposition leader, Edi
Rama.

Kukan said that he finds it hard to believe that Mr. Daul might have released such a declaration and that even if this has happened, it can be corrected.

“Thank you for this question. I have doubts about this declaration. Ladies and gentlemen, I know Mr. Daul personally, because he is the leader of my party. I have spent time with him in different situations, and he is a man of very fine qualities. One of them is being a true gentleman. I repeat this, a true gentleman”, Kukan declared.

“Mr. Daul does not use the language that has been quoted in that declaration when he mentions other politicians, even if they belong to other political camps. I find it hard to believe that he might have expressed something like that. I don’t know how such a declaration came to light”, he declared.

“A friend of mine, who was present at the Conference of Marseille, declared that Mr. Daul has not said something like that in his speech. He has released no interview for the media. I am sure that the truth will come out very soon and the correction, if it will be necessary, will be made by addressing it to the person mentioned in the declaration. This was a personal answer from me, but very sincere”, Kukan underlined.

Joseph Daul, after receiving pressures by many Albanians and the Socialist MP Erion Brace on Facebook, declared last night that he apologizes if he has offended anyone.

The reactions came after Daul spoke about the January 21st events, saying that PM Berisha stopped the bloodshed that day and considered the Socialist leader, Edi Rama, “a sick” person.
