The European MP of the EPP parties, and also Chairman of the Work-Group at the Commission of Foreign Affairs for Western Balkan, Eduard Kukan, declared in front of the European Parliament that Albania and Northern Macedonia deserve to open the EU accession negotiations.
Underlining that these countries have made progress, he spoke about the political crisis in Albania and underlined that the parties must go above their own interests.
“The recent reaction of the European Commission has been positive. Northern Macedonia and Albania deserve what you suggested. There has been progress with the integration path. There is still a lot to do. We understand that there is political tension in Albania, but we believe that it is up to the political elites about what will happen in the future. The Albanian parties must go above the party interests. The Albanian people really deserve opening the EU accession negotiations. We need to make positive pressure to see more democracy in the region”, Kukan said.
