Kosovo’s “Newborn” changes look

The flags of the countries that recognized Kosovo’s independence during
the last five years will be painted on the Newborn monument, symbol of
Kosovo’s independence.

The author of the independence obelisk, Fisnik Ismaili, received this initiative only a few days after the Organisation Council for the fifth anniversary of independence decided to paint it in yellow once again.

He says that he did not take permission for this, since it is allowed by the copyright. Ismaili says that the purpose of this activity is to thank the states that recognized Kosovo.

“I have tried to paint it differently for five years, but the request was denied. The Organisation Council is taking a decision without consulting with me. They ignored my request and painted it in a colour that sets it five years back. Newborn should be painted each year with a new colour, to give it a new instruction”, Ismajli declared.

Many young people joined this activity after joining Ismaili’s Facebook page, who says that he has made several requests to change the obelisk’s image, but it has never happened.

“This shows two instructions: progress and gratitude to the states that recognized us. This achievement does not belong only to Kosovo, since we have been recognized by only 100 states. We are appealing the government to work more for other recognitions”, Ismaili declared.

The Organization Council for the fifth anniversary, contacted by Top Channel, did not say if they would intervene once again. They only said that the request to paint the obelisk in yellow was made by Ismaili and his company, what he denied.

Ismaili declared that his initiative has nothing to do with his membership at the Self-Determination Movement. According to him, the 98 flags of Newborn will stay there until the sixth independence anniversary.
