Linda Rama: Between Family, Work and Albania’s Future While Kosovo and Serbia are still negotiating under Brussels’ mediation on very important matters that could consolidate Kosovo’s territorial
integrity, the Kosovan Prime Minister, Hashim Thaci, visited
Albania and met the Albanian Prime Minister, Sali Berisha.
The meeting was held without the presence of a third party, leaving behind suspicions that they had coordinated their stances before the meeting between Thaci and Dacic, which will be held this Monday in Brussels.
The Serbian Prime Minister declared that Serbia should have authority over the communes of Serbian population in northern Kosovo, which is unacceptable for Prishtina. Kosovo’s position so far was supported without reserves by Prime Minister Sali Berisha. Prime Minister Thaci declared that he expects Serbia to sign the verbal agreements that have been reached so far.
“This agreement expects that in the future meetings between Kosovo and Serbia, there will be an indispensable political agreement for normalizing the relations between Kosovo and Serbia, all of which will be guaranteed by the European Union with strong support by the USA. We concluded that the full normalization of relations between Kosovo and Serbia is on the interest of all regional states and serves to the acceleration of our countries’ NATO and EU integration. Kosovo is independent and sovereign. This is an irreversible process”, Thaci declared.
Berisha trusts the strong EU support for preserving Kosovo’s territorial integrity, and believes that the progress in the dialogue between Kosovo and Serbia in Brussel is a success for the entire region. This success made Tirana postpone the project that grants Albanian passports to Kosovo citizens.
“This can be resolved with an agreement negotiated with the Government of Kosovo in a more appropriate time. The consolidation of Kosovo’s independence is the national interest of all Albanians”, Berisha declared.
