The third day of the ninth dialogue round in Brussels ended fast, by
noon, with agreements reached for both topics discussed between Kosovo
and Serbia: regional cooperation and the managing of the border
checkpoints.

The agreement will enable Kosovo to participate and sign all agreements by itself on all regional meetings. The country’s name will be written Kosovo*, with an asterisk, and the completing explanation will be: “This name doesn’t judge the stances towards the status and is in full accordance with the UN Resolution 1244 and the ICJ Opinion about Kosovo’s independence declaration”, says the EU mediator declaration.

The parties approved the technical protocol for implementing the December agreement. While the details of the agreement have not been specified yet, the communication that the Head of the European Diplomacy, Catherine Ashton, and the Commissioner for Enlargement, Stefan Fule, had prepared several days ago, was made public and it greeted the reached agreement and mentioned the benefits for both parties.

“For Serbia, these agreements reached one week before the European Council’s decision for the candidate status are very welcomed. As for Kosovo, this is a step that makes it a participant with full rights in the regional meetings and enables further progress towards the contractual agreements with the EU. In full accordance with the European perspective of the country, the Commission proposes to start studying the feasibility of the Stabilization-Association Agreement”, the joint declaration says.

Ashton and Fule declared that this agreement reinforces the regional cooperation and guarantees the necessary representation for everyone, while consisting a dedication of both parties towards a European future.

Thaçi: An agreement for integration

After reaching an agreement in Brussels, the Kosovo Prime Minister, Hashim Thaci, appeared in a press conference in Prishtine.

He considered the agreement reached as very important, saying that if Rambouillet brought freedom to Kosovo and Ahtisari brought independence, today in Brussels Kosovo won the European integration.

“This was not the ideal solution, but the only one for this moment of Kosovo’s history”, declared the Kosovo Prime Minister.

According to Thaci, this agreement doesn’t fade Kosovo’s independence.

Self-Determination, demonstration against agreement

The Self-Determination reacted by warning a demonstration on February 27th, at 12:00, in front of the government building, for opposing the agreement reached in Brussels for Kosovo’s regional representation.

The news was announced by the Self-Determination leader, Albin Kurti, who said that they will interrupt Kosovo government’s work for four consequent hours.

He considered the agreement with Brussels as a personal agreement of PM Hashim Thaci, and for this reason he invited the institutions to not respect it.

While speaking about summoning an extraordinary Parliament Session, the head of the Self-Determination Parliamentary Group, Visar Ymeri, declared that they have collected 15 signatures, 12 of which belong to Self-Determination MPs.

According to him, if the necessary 40 signatures will not be collected until Saturday, they will start collecting 10.000 citizens’ signatures.
