Kosovo, Security Council meeting

08/11/2011 00:00

The Security Council members assembled in Kosovo to discuss the Northern Kosovo situation.

The head of the Mitrovica commune, Avni Kastrati, declared that the situation in Northern Kosovo is calm, but tense, due to the roadblocks of the Serbian parallel structures.

“The Serbian citizens in North must be clear that these structures cannot withhold KFOR with their conditions”, Kastrati declared.

The head of the commune emphasized that the Serbian parallel structures are abusing with the population by obliging them to guard the roadblocks.

This Monday, the KFOR motorcade crossed the roadblock to the Jarinje border checkpoint, while Belgrade notified for the planning of a special document for Northern Kosovo, which will be discussed in the Parliament.

The abuses with the Serbian population in Kosovo were denounced last week by the leader of the Liberal-Democratic Party of Serbia,  Cedomir Jovanovic, who declared that the Northern Serbs are being used as human shields.
